What if I told you that 46,000 college students from every state and commonwealth in the union, every country in the world, and every religious belief, or lack thereof, are in our city? What if I told you that a huge percentage of these young people are unsure of what they believe about God, Jesus, and the Bible? What if I told you that some of them are open to finding and obeying the truth? What if I told you that hundreds, maybe even as many as nine hundred (based on statistical data) of these people grew up in the churches of Christ? What if I told you that more than half of these people who grew up in churches of Christ, have moved to Tuscaloosa for college or work, and are currently not faithful to the Lord and to the Lord's church? All of these "what if" statements are true about the city of Tuscaloosa, right now, as you read these words. By now you will likely realize that there is a huge mission field in our own backyard, and it's called the University of Alabama, Shelton State Community College, and Stillman College. With this great opportunity in our mind and heart, S.A.L.T. is dedicated to engaging, educating, equipping, encouraging, empowering, energizing and elevating people to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ. There are people who do not know Jesus. We want to help them know Him. There are Christians who have wandered away from Jesus during their transition to Tuscaloosa. We want to help them come back to Jesus. There are Christians who are coming to Tuscaloosa in the future for college and work. We want them to join our family here in the Northport church of Christ and S.A.L.T. Our young people who grow up here at Northport need a college ministry to help them grow in their faith during their years of higher education. Our young professionals also need a group of people who they can rely on. Our goal is to incorporate everyone between the ages of 18-30 in our ministry. S.A.L.T. was started in part to provide them with this much needed ministry. There is a place for you to serve the Lord in this ministry. Please reach out to us, and together we will find your way to serve, and your service will move us toward our goal of leading people to Jesus.
